Calling for significantly more money for space travel: Minister Presidents Markus Söder (CSU), Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) and Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD).

In the run-up to the ESA Ministerial Council Conference in the fall of 2025, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Bremen are increasing the political pressure on the federal government. In a joint position paper, the federal states are calling for a substantially higher German contribution to the ESA budget, specifically: Two billion euros per year for the period 2026 to 2028 – as well as a massive increase in the national space program to one billion euros per year. The aim is to secure Europe’s ability to act in space and to strengthen Germany’s technological competitiveness in the long term.
