Climate department as a challenge to the Chancellor’s office

As part of their immediate climate protection program, the Greens want to establish a „climate protection ministry„ after the Bundestag elections on September 26, equipped with the right to veto legislative proposals from other departments. Constitutionally, the plan is difficult to implement, and criticism has come from the SPD and CDU, among others. However, the Green Party leadership is probably primarily aiming to drive a stake in the ground politically – also, and especially, with a view to European policy.
