The EU Commission intends to take a closer look at the action plan for the procurement of key raw materials in the coming months. The acute shortage of semiconductors underlines the strategic importance of this issue, said EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic in Brussels. Based on a list of 30 „critical“ raw materials, the authority wants to promote trade partnerships and corporate alliances. The model is the battery alliance, Sefcovic said. Batteries are to be given a „digital passport“ in the future to improve tracking of their use and facilitate recycling. Brussels wants to set new standards here.
