According to the Court of Auditors, more than 50,000 people work for the EU. The largest employer is the Commission with 30,000 employees.

Temporary employees often work for the EU’s administrative apparatus – partly because there is hardly any staff to be found in some areas. But this is too risky, the Court of Auditors has now criticized.

The institutions of the European Union are major employers – but they are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their long-term staffing needs. This is according to a new report by the European Court of Auditors. The proportion of fixed-term employees is particularly high in the IT sector, at more than 20 percent.
