Cybercrime: Dobrindt wants more power for security authorities.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) presented the Cybercrime Situation 2024 in Berlin on Tuesday.

Hackers and cyber criminals caused economic damage of EUR 178.6 billion in 2024. This is the highest damage ever measured. They exploited IT vulnerabilities in administrative authorities, hospitals, small and medium-sized companies, and transportation hubs such as airports. Artificial intelligence played an increasingly important role in this. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) noted this in its cybercrime situation report for 2024.
