Gerichtshof der Europäischen Union: Blick auf die Gebäude von Nordosten — The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has made a decision on cookie banners.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has deemed the decision of the Belgian Data Protection Authority to be lawful, ruling that the Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) is not compatible with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Practically all European cookie banners are based on the TCF.

When users accept or reject cookie banners on the internet, a letter and character code, known as the TC string, is sent to advertising partners and service providers. The TC string informs about the data processing to which the user has consented. The Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) was developed by the association IAB Europe.
