Mohammed Abdel Salam heads the Egyptian human rights organization AFTE.

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders, Mary Lawlor, is „alarmed“ by the actions of the Egyptian authorities against the executive director of the human rights organization AFTE, Mohammed Abdel Salam. „Egypt must stop harassing and intimidating human rights defenders,“ she wrote on X on Thursday. Abdel Salam was interrogated for an hour by National Security Agency officers at Cairo airport on Tuesday after a trip to Berlin. They also confiscated his passport.
