Greenwashing Green Claims Klimaneutral — The EU Parliament wants to have environmental advertising claims independently reviewed in order to prevent greenwashing.

According to the EU Parliament, the use of „environmentally friendly“ and other advertising slogans should only be allowed if companies can prove it. The Parliament adopted a corresponding position on Tuesday. Severe penalties are also envisaged.

MEPs agreed on their report on the Green Claims Directive on Tuesday, with 467 votes in favor, 65 against and 74 abstentions. The law is intended to prevent greenwashing by prohibiting companies from using certain environmental advertising claims without external verification – including claims such as „environmentally friendly“ or „biodegradable.“
