EP Plenary session - Resumption of session and order of business — EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola is in favor of the ethics authority.

The Christian Democrats in the EU Parliament do not agree with the interinstitutional agreement on the creation of an ethics authority. They therefore led a right-wing majority in the Constitutional Affairs Committee against an amendment to the Rules of Procedure. Now they want to vote in plenary on whether the interinstitutional agreement should be revoked by Parliament.

The Constitutional Affairs Committee (AFCO) of the EU Parliament is blocking the participation of the European Parliament in a cross-institutional ethics authority. In the committee, 17 members of the EPP and far-right political groups voted against the report by Sven Simon (CDU). 13 members voted in favor. The report proposed amending the European Parliament’s Rules of Procedure so that the Parliament could participate in the ethics authority.
