Unions and aviation companies have joined forces to oppose competitive disadvantages for European airlines caused by the planned stricter climate protection rules in the European Union. Airlines and the major airport hubs within the EU must be prevented from being put at a disadvantage compared with competitors from third countries, the aviation associations BDL and BDLI, the unions IG Metall, UFO, Verdi and Vereinigung Cockpit said on Thursday. The EU has not yet succeeded in creating a level playing field internationally. The international competitiveness of the industry is therefore already considerably weakened.
