In the judicial dispute with Poland, the European Commission wants the Eastern European country to pay penalties. The European Court of Justice (ECJ) had ruled in July that the Polish disciplinary chamber for judges contradicts EU law. Since the body did not meet all the requirements for the impartiality and independence of judges, it had to be dissolved. On Tuesday, the EU Commission asked the ECJ to impose a daily penalty payment on Poland as long as the measures imposed by the court were not fully implemented.
