The EU Commission has closed a loophole to circumvent anti-dumping duties on aluminum household foil from China – elsewhere, however, the Brussels authority wants to suspend definitive import duties on aluminum products from the People’s Republic for the time being. The EU Commission’s Directorates-General for Trade announced that the punitive duties on aluminum foil for household use have been extended to imports from Thailand. Investigations had revealed that Chinese producers of aluminum foil brought their product to Thailand, where it underwent „minor assembly operations“ before being re-exported to the EU and thus no longer fell under the anti-dumping duties. Previously, EU inspectors had noticed an increase in imports of domestic aluminum foil from Thailand.
