Visit of Didier Reynders, European Commissioner, to the United States On 19 July 2024, Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice, travelled to Washington D.C., United States, and conducted the first review of the new framework for safe and trusted EU-US data flows together with Gina M. Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce. In its 2023 adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, the Commission concluded that the US ensures an adequate level of protection for personal data transferred from the EU to US companies, comparable to that of the European Union. The functioning of the Framework is subject to periodic reviews, carried out by the European Commission, together with representatives of European data protection authorities and competent US authorities. A full report will be published by the Commission later this year.
Meeting in Washington: In July, Didier Reynders traveled to the USA and conducted the first review of the new EU-US Data Privacy Framework with US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

Following an initial review of the new data protection framework between the EU and the US (EU-US Data Privacy Framework, DPF), the Commission has determined that the US authorities have met the essential requirements. The DPF regulates the transfer of personal data from the EU to US companies. The measures implemented include safeguards that limit access by US intelligence services to a necessary and proportionate level, as well as the establishment of an independent and impartial redress mechanism for EU citizens.
