CO₂ capture is still extremely expensive. In order to promote upscaling in Europe, experts are calling for more funding for research into carbon capture.

The Brussels-based NGO Carbon Gap is calling for a carbon capture strategy from the next EU Commission. Research in particular needs better funding to bring removal projects from the laboratory to reality more quickly.

The climate policy focus of the next EU Commission should be on carbon dioxide removals (CDR), demands the Brussels-based non-governmental organization Carbon Gap. In a roadmap published on Tuesday, the NGO recommends a comprehensive CDR strategy to increase targeted political and financial support for CDR in Europe.
