The world’s first industrial plant for the production of climate-friendly aviation fuel has been opened in Emsland. „In order to meet our global climate targets, progress is also essential in the transport sector – not least in aviation. Synthetic, carbon-neutral kerosene plays an important part in this,“ said German Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) in a video message. Environment Minister Svenja Schulze (SPD) pointed out that air traffic in Germany would initially have to fly with an admixture of 0.5 percent from 2026. This would correspond to around 50,000 tonnes of climate-neutral kerosene. By 2030, the proportion of this so-called power-to-liquid (PTL) fuel must be quadrupled.
