The Rehden gas storage facility in the district of Diepholz is Germany’s largest natural gas storage facility, but is currently almost empty.

On Thursday, the European Parliament voted in favor of relaxing EU regulations on filling gas storage facilities. With a large majority (425 votes in favor, 106 against and 43 abstentions), MEPs voted in favour of extending the EU Gas Storage Regulation from 2022 to 2027. The regulation would otherwise expire at the end of 2025. The regulation is intended to ensure the supply of gas in the winter season in light of changing geopolitical circumstances.
