Google is defending itself in court against a record antitrust fine imposed in 2018, pointing at rival Apple. „The Commission shut its eyes to the real competitive dynamic in this industry – that between Apple and Android,“ Google lawyer Matthew Pickford told the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg on Monday at the start of a five-day hearing. Antitrust watchdogs overestimated Google’s importance, he said. Instead, he said, Android is a prime example of functioning competition.
