According to insiders, NATO wants another seven brigades from Germany and thus an additional 40,000 soldiers to defend the alliance. The new targets for weapons and troop numbers have already been agreed, although the NATO defense ministers will not officially decide on them until next week, according to three people familiar with the matter. The target for the total number of brigades that NATO allies must provide in the future will be raised to between 120 and 130, according to a high-ranking military representative. This would increase the current target of around 80 brigades by around 50 percent. An insider put the target at 130 brigades for the whole of NATO.
