A resolution in the European Parliament calling for a ban on smoking and vaping in outdoor areas did not receive a majority. Young people in particular should be protected from the dangers of passive smoking and vaping. The focus was not only on cigarettes but also on new tobacco products such as e-cigarettes and tobacco heaters. The EPP, ECR and the far-right groups did not follow the resolution, which was supported by the Liberals, S&D and Greens. The Commission had proposed a Council recommendation with similar content.
