Liberal Bucharest mayor Nicușor Dan has officially won Romania’s presidential election. According to final results, Dan secured 54.17 percent of the vote in Sunday’s runoff election, defeating right-wing populist George Simion, who received 45.83 percent. Simion, however, refused to accept the outcome on election night, claiming the vote had been rigged and falsely declaring himself the winner on social media.
