The EU member states approved the establishment of an armaments fund worth EUR 150 billion on Tuesday. Through the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program, Brussels intends to grant loans to European countries for joint armaments projects over the next five years. The Commission announced on Tuesday that the instrument would be used to ramp up production capacities and close capability gaps. Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius described the program as a „political commitment to a safer, more capable, and more united Europe.“
