Since the summer, the Commission has been taking another look at Germany’s billion-euro Covid aid package for Lufthansa. Overall, however, the Commission has examined too little aid, the Court of Auditors criticizes.

In times of crisis, the member states have pumped massive amounts of state aid into their economies. Nevertheless, the Commission has reduced its monitoring of aid, criticizes the European Court of Auditors. Germany in particular is in the spotlight.

Despite significantly higher spending on state aid since 2020, the Commission has reduced its efforts to monitor aid. This is one of the key points of criticism made by the European Court of Auditors in its special report on state aid in times of crisis.
