Study: EU wastes more food than it imports

In 2021, the EU imported nearly 138 million tons of agricultural products. A study citing recent data from the UN Food Waste Index shows that at the same time, the EU wastes 153.5 million tons of food each year. „At a time of high food prices and a cost of living crisis, it is a scandal that the EU is throwing away more food than it imports,“ criticizes Frank Mechielsen, Executive Director at Feedback EU.
