The growing Turkish presence in Africa can be seen not only in the increasing number of diplomatic missions but also in the sales of Bayraktar drones. This drone is one of the most purchased on the continent. According to recent analyses by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS), the buyers include Nigeria (18), Algeria (15), Ethiopia (12), and Morocco (11). The Turkish weapon is a tactical, armed MALE drone (Medium Altitude Long Endurance), i.e., a drone for medium altitude and long flight duration. Most of the purchases were made through direct agreements between the Turkish and African governments. 28 of the 32 agreements have been concluded since 2021, according to the ACSS study.
