The EU Commission proposed on Wednesday to bring forward key elements of the asylum and migration pact. Member states should be able to apply the new accelerated procedure at the external borders before the pact comes into force in June next year. The legislative package provides for an accelerated procedure for asylum seekers from countries of origin with a recognition rate of 20 percent or less. This can be carried out at the external borders and is to be completed within three instead of six months.
