Today is the deadline for ‘Initial Proposals’ to receive funds under the European satellite program IRIS². Start-ups did not stand a chance, criticizes Dennis Moore of Reflex Aerospace. But that was not the plan. An appeal to politicians to ensure more innovation after all.

The EU Commission wants to establish a European satellite constellation. The IRIS² program – Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnection and Security by Satellites – stands for securing Europe’s sovereignty. Between 2025 and 2027, up to 170 LEO satellites are to be placed in low Earth orbit. More than €3 billion in public funding is being provided by Brussels and the European Space Agency (ESA).
