ASML Cleanroom workcenter Veldhoven, February 2020 — Production of semiconductors: The Dutch company ASML is a world leader in the manufacture of photolithography machines, which are necessary for the production of the most advanced chips.

The EU Court of Auditors sees significant shortcomings in the Chips Act, which is intended to strengthen chip production in the EU. They recommend short-term corrective measures and a new strategy.

The EU Court of Auditors doubts that the Commission will be able to achieve its target of 20 percent of the value of global production of advanced and sustainable semiconductors by 2030. The Court concludes that the Chips Act has provided new impetus. „The Commission has already made acceptable progress in implementing its strategy,“ the auditors write in a recent special report.
