Speedometer fraud is to be made more difficult. This is a measure proposed by the Commission as part of the revision of EU regulations on road safety and registration procedures. As co-legislators, the ball is now in the court of Parliament and the Council.

Vans and cars should undergo a periodic technical inspection (PTI) every year from the age of ten. This deadline already applies in several member states; in Germany, the two-year inspection interval applies to cars and vans over a certain age. This is one of the measures proposed by the Commission as part of the revision of EU road safety and registration regulations.
