The EU Commission wants to make the deportation of rejected asylum seekers faster and more efficient. The repatriation regulation that has now been presented provides for deportation centers and simplified detention pending deportation.

The controversial deportation camps for rejected asylum seekers – so-called „return hubs“ or repatriation centers – are to be legalized throughout the EU. In addition, deportations in EU countries are to be subject to uniform rules and accelerated in the future. These are the most important innovations in the draft Return Regulation, which the EU Commission presented in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
