Rare earths: Commission presents strategic mining sites in third countries.

One of the largest open-cast mines in the world with a depth of up to eight kilometers: the copper mine in Calama, Chile.

The European Commission has announced 13 new raw materials projects outside Europe to secure the supply of critical metals and minerals. „We need to reduce our dependencies on all countries – especially some countries like China, on which we are more than 100 percent dependent,“ said EU Industry Commissioner Stéphane Séjourné on Wednesday. „The export bans strengthen our will to diversify.“ In April, China restricted the export of a large number of rare earths and magnets in response to the US tariffs.
