The defense ministers of NATO member states have agreed on new capability goals for the alliance. „We can say today that this is a historic decision,“ said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The allies will need to invest in these capabilities over the coming years to ensure the security of one billion people in the future. At the upcoming summit in The Hague in three weeks, Rutte plans to propose an investment plan calling for every member state to spend five percent of its GDP on defense. He described this ambitious plan as necessary to meet the capability goals.
