Port fees are the next salvo in the trade war between the USA and China. Starting on October 14 of this year, logistics companies will have to dig deep into their pockets if they want to call at American ports with container ships built in China. By 2028, the fees will increase many times over. Washington wants to encourage international shipping companies to buy US-built vessels in the future if they wish to avoid the fees.
