China is expanding its renewable energies faster than any other country. It created a capacity of 356 gigawatts of solar cells and wind turbines in 2024 alone. The catch: The electricity is often generated at times and in places where it is not needed, and some systems are not connected to the national grid. One possible solution: green hydrogen. However, demand for this energy source remains low in the People’s Republic, so hydrogen could also be exported to Europe.
