Last Friday, when the CDU/CSU, SPD and Greens reached their compromise on investments and climate financing, there was both a success story and a warning about the climate balance: According to official figures from the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), Germany has made significant progress in reducing emissions under the traffic light government. The economy is on course to achieve the result by 2030 – but at the same time, the statutory targets for 2040 and 2045 cannot be achieved with the measures taken so far.
