Environmental experts hope to strengthen NATO’s defense capabilities on its eastern flank with more peatlands, extensive water areas and restored wetlands. The new plan would also allow the restoration of natural areas, regulate the water balance, store greenhouse gases and use the peatlands for agriculture. One such proposal has been put forward by experts, including Greifswald Moor Centrum (MCG).
