In the future, gas-fired power plants could be kept on the grid for longer with CCS – but the fact that they should also be ready for hydrogen is not mentioned in the exploratory paper.

As in the election campaign, the exploratory talks do not devote any separate capital to climate action. Although measures to achieve the climate targets are noted in the „Economy“ topic area, the goal of climate neutrality by 2045 and a uniform strategy for achieving the target are missing. Environmental associations rate the plans as inadequate.

There are large gaps in the exploratory paper of the CDU/CSU and SPD for the current coalition talks in the area of the environment and climate. There is no separate chapter on the environment, climate or nature conservation; the topics are grouped together under „Economy.“ Although the climate targets are to be achieved, a uniform strategy for the necessary acceleration and expansion of the transformation is not discernible – neither for the transport transition, building renovation nor natural climate action.
