NGO alliance: Germany’s Social Democrats urged to support wealth tax

An alliance of 16 civil society organizations has called on the SPD to push through its election promise of a wealth tax on the super-rich in the coalition negotiations. The revenue from this tax should be used for future investments such as climate action, public welfare and „support for low-income countries.“ The signatories include Greenpeace, the Climate Alliance, AWO, Bread for the World and Oxfam. They argue that the super-rich contribute disproportionately to the climate crisis and that their tax burden is often lower in percentage terms than that of the middle class.
