With the seizure of the Russian tanker „Eventin“ a few days ago, the German government demonstrated its ability to act in the implementation of sanctions. In future, however, a new EU authority could have a say in such actions. Finance Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque is examining whether the EU should set up a central enforcement authority along the lines of the United States’ Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) or the British OFSI. This is indicated by a tender published by the Commission on Friday.
