Belgian EU Presidency - 2024 Decorations Day 3 — On Jan. 1, 2024, Belgium assumed the rotating council presidency of the EU. The country aims to focus on a roadmap for expansion and reform.

After receiving the green light for EU accession for Moldova and Ukraine at the last EU summit, accession talks are set to commence in 2024. The roadmap for expansion and the accompanying EU reform is slowly taking shape under the Belgian Council Presidency.

„Protect, strengthen, prepare“ is the motto Belgium has chosen for its six-month EU Council Presidency. The planned expansion by 2030, including Ukraine, Moldova and other Western Balkan countries, is intended to make the European Union larger and stronger, according to the program of the new Council Presidency.
