How the EU tackles greenwashing

The soap on the drugstore shelf, the shipping of DHL parcels, the long-haul flight with corresponding carbon compensation: many things are supposedly „climate neutral.“ In total, the EU Commission has identified around 230 product labels with claims of positive climate and environmental impact – and wants to regulate them. Because they are often unsubstantiated and misleading.

Climate neutrality is an important political goal in the fight against climate change – and a frequent advertising promise on products or services. Cosmetic products, food, parcel delivery or furniture: Many manufacturers and suppliers advertise neutral or even positive effects on the environment and climate.
