Experts see only limited opportunities for higher imports of fossil fuels from the US. On Monday, US President Donald Trump reiterated his call for the EU to buy more oil, gas and coal from the US in order to reduce the trade deficit. However, Washington’s tariff policy could make gas more expensive in Europe in the short term, according to the consulting firm Aurora Energy Research. The main reason for this is counter-tariffs, such as those China has now introduced on American LNG. This would probably lead to liquefied natural gas tankers following inefficient trade routes, Head of Research Jacob Mandel told Table.Briefings on Tuesday. „This would also increase the price of gas in the EU.“
