The Commission is already working on the EU budget for 2028-2034.

The EU Commission is starting work on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and is campaigning to retain elements of the Corona Recovery Fund. At the same time, EU officials put criticism of the delayed implementation into perspective.

At the annual meeting of the think tank Bruegel, which took place this week in Brussels, senior Commission officials offered an insight into the preparatory work for the next long-term EU budget. The Commission will present a first proposal for the MFF from 2028 to 2034 as early as summer 2025.
