The EU Commission wants to strengthen energy security through more domestically produced biomethane. Maciej Ciszewski, Head of the Diversification and Joint Procurement Unit of the Directorate-General for Energy, said on Tuesday at the annual Eurogas conference that the AggregateEU mechanism for joint gas purchasing could therefore be extended to biomethane. The Commission already wanted to strengthen the role of biomethane with REPowerEU, the plan for independence from Russian natural gas.
