Austrian privacy activists None of Your Business (NOYB) filed 422 official complaints against website operators with member states’ data protection regulators on Tuesday. Among them, according to NOYB, are all the major platform operators on the web. The NGO is primarily attacking the technique known as dark patterns, in which website operators use user guidance tricks such as green boxes to try to obtain consent from users for data processing. These methods have been the subject of massive legal criticism since the advent of cookie banners at the latest.
