Ursula von der Leyen was elected with 370 votes in favor. Parliament President Roberta Metsola then immediately drafted the letter to the Council.

Following the confirmation of the Commission by the European Parliament on Wednesday, the Council has now officially appointed the Commission for five years. Contrary to what was reported in yesterday’s edition, the Commission needed 345 votes on Wednesday to be elected. 370 MEPs voted yes, 282 voted no.

On Thursday, the Council appointed the new Commission under the leadership of Ursula von der Leyen. The term of office was set from Dec. 1, 2024 to Oct. 31, 2029. The decision was taken by circular resolution after Parliament President Roberta Metsola informed the Council of the election in Parliament by letter on Wednesday.
