EU-US TTC: Here are the results

On 4th April 2024, Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Europe fit for the Digital Age, and Commissioner for Competition, and Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of an Economy that works for People, and Commissioner for Trade, participate to the EU-US Trade and Technology Council in Leuven (Belgium): Stakeholder outreach in form of a Fireside chat with the principals on — Taking positive stock of the EU-US TTC: Commission Executive Vice-Presidents Margrethe Vestager and Valdis Dombrovskis as well as Commissioner Thierry Breton and the representatives of the American side.

At the sixth and final EU-US Trade and Technology Council (EU-US TTC) in this mandate, negotiators emphasize that they have achieved a lot. However, they still see much work ahead. The concluding statement makes this clear.

Looking back at the year 2020, Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager sees what the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (EU-US TTC) has achieved in recent years. „Back then, we were on the verge of a trade war over the taxation of digital services. We were facing a potential collapse of transatlantic data flows because we couldn’t get things under control,“ Vestager recalled at a panel event on the first day of the sixth EU-US TTC in Leuven. There was practically no cooperation on regulatory issues for transatlantic trade.
