Gas storage: Germany dependent on the Commission

Natural gas storage facilities must be well filled before the onset of winter to ensure security of supply.

The European Gas Storage Regulation is to be extended until the end of 2027. This was proposed by the EU Commission on Wednesday. The law requires member states to fill their gas storage facilities to 90 percent by Nov. 1 of each year and to reach interim targets in the months beforehand. According to critics, the rigid filling paths have speculatively driven up gas prices for the coming summer.
