On Wednesday night, the EU Parliament, Council and Commission agreed for the first time on mandatory blending quotas for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). This also includes sub-quotas for synthetic fuels (e-fuels), whose use in aviation is uncontroversial. SAF can be produced synthetically or be of biogenic origin, i.e. from organic waste. Biofuels produced from food and feed crops are excluded.
