The CDU-affiliated German Economic Council is calling for companies to no longer have to transfer money to the state for the purchase of CO2 certificates from European emissions trading. Instead, the value of the purchased pollution rights should flow into a „special account of the company.“ Each company should be allowed to use these funds for expenses „that contribute to climate-neutral operations or negative emissions.“
