CCTV sums it all up with the hashtag #美国一边打贸易战一边求鸡蛋 („The US wages a trade war while begging for eggs“). That’s not entirely inaccurate. However, one crucial detail goes unmentioned in the supposedly revealing report: The US actually requested egg shipments more than three weeks ago – and not because of trade barriers, but due to the impact of avian flu in the country.
